WayBeam Privacy Policy

WayBeam is built to work without collecting your personal data. This page explains what the app does with data on your device and the few cases where information is sent elsewhere to make the app work.

No account, no tracking

WayBeam doesn't require an account, doesn't include advertising or analytics, and doesn't track you across other apps or websites. There are no third-party SDKs in the app.

What stays on your device

• Saved locations, recents, and app settings (units, beacon style, and similar preferences) are stored only on your device and are never sent anywhere.
• Photos you take in WayBeam, including the watermark, are saved directly to your own photo library. WayBeam does not upload, share, or have access to your photos after they're saved.
• Your location (from GPS and the compass) is used on your device to calculate the direction and distance to your destination. It is not sent to us. When you search, Apple's Maps service receives an approximate area around you so nearby results are ranked first.

What's sent elsewhere, and why

WayBeam uses two outside services to do its job:

• Apple Maps. When you search for or select an address or place, that address is sent to Apple's Maps service to be geocoded (converted into a location WayBeam can point to). This is handled entirely by Apple's own systems; WayBeam does not operate or have access to this data beyond receiving the result.
• USGS (U.S. Geological Survey). To place the beacon at the correct elevation, WayBeam sends the destination's coordinates to a public USGS elevation lookup service and receives back a height value. Your own location is never sent to USGS — only the coordinates of the destination you've chosen.

Neither of these requests is stored by WayBeam beyond what's needed to place the beacon. WayBeam does not operate a server. Destinations you choose are kept only on your device, in your recents and saved locations.

Contacts

If you choose to search your contacts to find someone's saved address, WayBeam will ask for permission to access your contacts the first time you do this — not when you first open the app. WayBeam only uses this to look up an address you select. A contact's name is never included in a saved photo or sent anywhere; only the address you select is used, the same way as any other address search.

Children's privacy

WayBeam is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect data from anyone.

Changes to this policy

If WayBeam's data practices change, this page will be updated, and the "Last updated" date above will reflect that.
